A quarter hatching plot in the name of quota reform: Nasim
SIRAJGANJ: Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim on Tuesday said a vested quarter is hatching conspiracy in the name of quota reform movement by creating ‘unstable situation’ in the country, reports BSS.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the cancelation of quota system. But, it will take time…now a group is involved in conspiracy by creating unstable situation in the country,” he told reporters after visiting the construction site of Amena Mansur Textile Institute at Kazipur.
Former lawmaker Tanvir Shakil Joy, deputy commissioner Kamrun Nahar Siddiqua, superintendent of police Miraz Uddin Ahmed and local civil surgeon Dr Kazi Shamim Hossain were, among others, present on the occasion. Nasim urged people to vote Awami League again to continue the country’s socioeconomic development.
Later, he visited the FWVTI project of Medical Assistant Training School at Maijbari.
AL leader’s throat-slit body found in Mymensingh
Mymensingh: Police recovered the throat-slit body of a local Awami League (AL) leader from his pond at Khagati village in Trishal upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Matin Master, a freedom fighter and also the president of ward no 8 of Mathbaria union unit Awami League.
Locals spotted the throat-slit body of Matin in his pond around 10:30 am and informed the matter to police.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the local hospital morgue, said Jakiur Hossain, officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station. Matin come out from his home around 12 am on Tuesday and went to his pond to watch out, said family his members. The motive behind the killing could not be known immediately, said the OC.
Six gamblers jailed in Sirajganj
Sirajganj: A mobile court here sentenced six gamblers to six-month imprisonment each in Raiganj upazila on Tuesday, reports UNB.
The convicts are Sajib uddin Talukdar, 33, son of Sujabat Ali Talukdar of Gopalpur village, Masud Rana, 27, son of Abdul Khalek of Rupkhara village, Jakir Hossain, 26, son of Joynal of Gotitha village, Afsar Ali, 55, son of Insaf Ali of Sreerampur village, Shafiqul Islam, 38, son of Sarkar of Nimgacchi village, Abdul Hannan, 37, son of Iman Ali of Bhuiyat village in the upazila. Tipped off, a team of Rab-12 conducted a drive in the area and arrested six people while they were gambling on Monday night.
Later, they were produced before the court of Executive Magistrate Nusrat Azmeri Haq, also Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Raiganj Upazila.
Killing of teacher protested in Netrakona; case filed
Netrakona: Locals, and teachers and students of Udaypur Mitali High School in Kalmakanda upazila staged demonstrations on Tuesday demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the killing of school headmaster Delwar Hossain Dulal, reports UNB.
Several hundred students, teachers, guardians and political party activists brought out a procession from in front of the school in the morning to press home their demand.
Dulal, 50, headmaster of the school, did not allow Maruf, a Class-VII student to appear at the half-yearly examination as he did not provide Tk 300 as examination fees. He also allegedly drove him out of school on Sunday.
When Maruf informed the matter to his family, his relatives went to school and demanded explanation from the headmaster. An altercation ensued between them over the issue. At one stage, they attacked Delwar, leaving him injured. Later, he was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
AKM MizanurRahman, officer-in-charge of Kalmakanda Police Station, said victim’s brother Alal Uddin Khan filed a murder case with the police station against 8/10 people.
Road crash kills 1 in Naogaon
NAOGAON: A man was killed and his elder brother injured in a road accident in Shanpara-Hajir more area under Badalgachhi upazila of the district yesterday noon, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Ujjal Hossain, a paddy trader and son of Ashraf Hossain, a resident of Radhanagar village under Kalai upazila in Joypurhat district.
Police said the accident occurred when a human hauler collided head-on with a truck in the area, leaving human hauler passenger Ujjal dead on the spot and his brother Taher Uddin injured.
Taher was sent to the upazila health complex.
