4 get life term for killing boy

A court here on Monday convicted four people of killing a young man in Shibalaya upazila in 2014 and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
The convicts are Sujon Miah, 22, son of Mohammad Hossain, Suruj Miah, 19, son of Zindar Miah, Muktar Hossain, 32, son of Bakkar Hossain, and Abu Taleb, 45, son of Mohammad Ali of Teuta village in the upazila.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer two years more in prison.
According to the prosecution, Tutul, 13, son of Arman Ali of the Teuta village, was found dead in a well on May 30, 2014, seven days after he had gone missing.
Tutul’s father filed a case with Shibalaya Police Station on that day. Police arrested six people in this connection.
After examining the records and witnesses, Senior District and Session’s Judge Mizanur Rahman handed down the verdict acquitting two other accused as the allegation brought against them could not be proved.
Jail guards sued for extortion
Pirojpur: A case was filed against two jail guards of the district jail on Monday as they allegedly assaulted and extorted money from a local trader of Sadar upazila in the district, reports UNB.
Md Jakaria Khan Iqbal filed the case with Pirojpur Additional Chief Judicial Magistrates Court in the morning.
The accused prison guards are Md Iran Sardar, 55, and Md Badal, 38, of Pirojpur district jail.
According to the statement, Jakaria Khan Iqbal had been working against the drug dealers for a long time, but recently some drug dealers who were in jail hired the jail guards to attack Jakaria.
Earlier on June 6 as well, the hired jail guards beat up Jakaria leading to their arrest by local police, but the next day they were released on bond. Then again on June 13, the same duo again attacked Jakaria, and even snatched Tk 2,65,000 from him, it was alleged.
Teenager on cellphone crushed under train in Gaibandha
Gaibandha: A teenager busy on her cellphone was crushed by a commuter train as she was walking along the rail tracks at Hazirgate area of Sadar upazila on Monday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Monira Aktar, 13, daughter of Mozaffar Mia of Ujir Dharani village of Sadar upazila. Sub-inspector Khokon Chandra Das of Bonarpara Railway Police Station disclosed Monira was on a voice call using her cellphone while walking on the rail tracks in the morning.
That would typically absolve any other party of responsibility.
The train coming from behind obliterated her.
2 minor siblings drown in B’baria
Brahmanbaria: Two minor siblings drowned in a pond of Golsar village in Kasba yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Tamim, 7, and her sister Nazmin, 5, children of Billal Bhuiyan of the village.
Locals said the duo was playing near their house in the morning and at one stage, they slipped into a pond unnoticed.
Locals found them floating in the pond, rescued them and took them to Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead.
