Left-handed batsman Lahiru Thirimanne smashed 168 as visiting Sri Lanka ‘A’ team put on a comprehensive 449 for eight before declaring their first innings against their Bangladesh counterparts on the second day of the first unofficial Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram yesterday.
Resuming the second day on 171 for four, the tourists pulled off 278 on the scoresheet at the cost of four wickets before being declared their first-innings on 449 for eight.
Lahiru Thirimanne, who remained at stumps on 76, built up two crucial partnerships including 156 with Charith Asalanka for the fifth-wicket stand and another 119 for the sixth-wicket with Shammu Ashan before being departed.
Charith Asalanka, another overnight batsman, fell 10 runs short of his century resuming on 12, while Ashan got out for 70. The left-handed one-down batsman comfortably converted his double digit to triple figure marks. The south-paw blasted 14 fours and two sixes in his patient 339-ball 168.
Fast bowler Khaled Ahmed was the most successful bowler, who finished with four for 92.
In reply, Bangladesh got opportunity to bat for 17 overs on the second day but they mislaid two important wickets of Soumya Sarkar and Shadman Islam Anik cheaply. They finally scored 44 for two before the bails were down for the second day.
