Sylhet Rail Station’s power snapped over unpaid dues

Sylhet Power Distribution Department on Tuesday snapped the power connections of Sylhet Rail Station, demanding payment of Tk 50 lakh dues.

Sardar Azam Mohammad, chief engineer of Sylhet Power Distribution Department, said due to the reluctant attitude of the rail authorities, the power connection of the rail was snapped around 1:30 pm.

Later, the rail authorities submitted a cheque to them and after getting the cheque, the power connection was reconnected two hours after the incident.

Already, several notices have been served to those companies which were involved in paying the power bill on time and if anyone failed to pay the bill than the power connection will be snapped.

Chief justice’s father passes away

Advocate Syed Mustafa Ali, former president of Comilla District Lawyers’ Association and father of Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, died at a hospital in the capital on Tuesday afternoon. He was 94.

He breathed his last at the capital’s Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU) around 3:45 pm. CJ’s Secretary of High Court Division Md Rejaul Haque said Mustafa Ali had been suffering from old age health complications.

He is survived by wife, four sons including incumbent chief justice, two daughters and relatives to morn his death. His first Namaz-E-Janaja was held at Kakrail Circuit House Mosque after Esha Prayer.

AL special extended meeting on June 30

Awami League will hold a special extended meeting at 11 am on June 30 at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official Ganabhaban residence.

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will preside over the meeting, a press release said.

AL Central Working Committee, advisory council and union level presidents and general secretaries, and union parishad chairmen from Chattogram, Sylhet, Rajshahi and Barishal divisions will join the meeting.

AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader requested all concerned to remain present in the meeting in due time.
