JU students to demonstrate for JUCSU elections today

Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) will observe a sit-in demonstration programme on the campus today demanding polls of Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU).

Different left-leaning students’ organisations under the banner of ‘Jahangirnagar Sangskritik Jote’ and ‘Pragatisheel Chhatra Jote’ will observe the programme in front of JU senate hall during a senate meeting.

They made the announcement at a press conference at Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on the campus yesterday.

They said that they would take position in front of JU senate hall from 2 pm.

Mahatir Muhammad, vice-president of ‘Pragatisheel Chharta Jote’, said, ‘Without JUCSU representatives, this senate is totally invalid and incomplete.”

Ashikur Rahman, president of ‘Sangskritik Jote’, said “It is sad to say that the senate of JU does not have any elected student representative from the JUCSU since the election to the JUCSU has not been held for many years.

Hence, the students of JU have been deprived of their democratic rights.”

The last election to the JUCSU took place 27 years ago, he said.
