The naval forces of Bangladesh and India have inaugurated a joint patrol named Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) yesterday for the first time at the Bay of Bengal to ensure security of the maritime boundaries of the friendly countries.

Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) of India Admiral Sunil Lanba inaugurated the three-day (June 27-29) CORPAT at a function at the country’s port city Chattogram.

Four maritime patrol aircraft - two from Bangladesh and two from Indian Navy and four frigates - two from Bangladesh Navy naming BNS Abu Bakar and BNS Dhaleswari and two from Indian navy named INS Satpura and INS Kadmatt joined the CORPAT.

The warships and the patrol aircraft have started the joint patrol from the Bangladesh sea territory and it will sail towards the Indian waters in the Bay.

Chief of naval staff of Bangladesh Navy, and other senior Navy officials from both the countries were present at the inauguration ceremony.
