Bulbul, Sarwar get BNP ticket
for Rajshahi, Barishal polls

The BNP yesterday named its mayoral candidates for Rajshahi and Barishal City Corporations. Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul and party joint secretary general Advocate Mujibur Rahman Sarwar was selected as the candidates respectively for the forthcoming Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) and Barishal City Corporation (BCC) polls slated for July 30. Sarwar has been picked as the mayoral candidate overlooking the incumbent Barishal city mayor Ahsan Habib Kamal.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the names at a press briefing at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s political office in Dhaka’s Gulshan. He, however, did not announce the party’s mayoral candidate for Sylhet City Corporation (SCC). The city corporation election to Sylhet will also be held on June 30.

The BNP secretary general said the candidate for the SCC will be announced today. Asked whether the mayoral post for the SCC will be offered to Jamaat, a major ally of the 20-party alliance, he said no decision in this regard has yet been taken. Earlier, a total of 12 candidates picked nomination forms from BNP on June 20 and of them 12 have deposited the forms after filling them up. The nominations have been given after interviewing them by the party interview broad.
