Mangoes destroyed in Narail
Narail: A mobile court here on Friday destroyed around 30 maunds of chemically ripened mangoes at Afra village in Sadar upazila on Friday morning, reports UNB.
The mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Salma Selim, also Sadar upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), conducted the drive at the village around 11am and fined two mango traders Malek Foraji, 40, and Sohrab Malek, 60, with Tk 50,000 each for using chemicals to ripen the fruits.
Later, they destroyed the seized mangoes.
52kg hemp seized in Brahmanbaria
Brahmanbaria: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members yesterday recovered 52 kilograms of hemp from a pick up van at Bijoynagar of the district, reports UNB.
Being tipped off, the BGB team of Mukundpur camp in Paharpur union led by its Subedar Abul Hashem seized the car along with the hemp. According to BGB source, the peddlers ran away from the scene along with the driver sensing the presence of the police. Officer- in-charge of Bijoynagar Police Station Ali Arshad said a case was filed against six people in this connection.
Minor siblings drowned
Narsingdi: Two siblings drowned in the Meghna River beside Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Mahmudabad village here on Friday afternoon, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Shamim, 9, and his sister Shimu, 5, children of Alamin of the village.
