Indefinite transport strike on 17 routes

Inter-district bus owners and workers went on an indefinite transport strike on 17 south-western routes from yesterday morning. Barisal-Patuakhali Bus Minibus Owners Association called the strike protesting the barrier of bus owners and workers of Jhalakathi on the highway.

As a result, bus communications from Rupatali Bus Terminal in Barisal to other districts came to standstill since morning. During the strike, bus owners and workers also blocked the main road at Rupatoli holding demonstration. They even forcibly stopped plying long route vehicles from here.

At one stage, police rushed to the spot and managed the situation at 11:45am. Facing the sudden strike, a large number of Eid return bus passenger were found to suffer in different bus stands, including Rumatoli bus terminal of the city.

Azizur Rahman Shahin, president of Barisal-Patuakhali Bus Minibus Owners Association, said a section of transport owners and workers ransacked three buses and attacked five workers in Raypasha area under Jhalakathi district yesterday morning.

 Police and district administration did not called any negotiation meeting in this regard till filing the report. . In the final stage of the problems, Barisal-Patuakhali Bus Minibus Owners Association took decision to start strike for indefinite periods in 17 southern and western routes from yesterday.
