Parliament yesterday unanimously adopted a motion thanking Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for enhancing her government’s acceptability among people and globally brightening the country’s image under her prudent leadership as shown in the IRI survey, reports UNB. Chief Whip ASM Feroz placed the thanksgiving motion and initiated a special discussion. He said as per a recent survey conducted by the US-based research institution IRI on Bangladesh, the public support towards daughter of Bangabandhu and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Awami League has seen a rise.
“The country’s development is continuing for the wisdom, farsightedness, able leadership, sincerity and patriotism of Sheikh Hasina. The government’s acceptability among people has increased and the country’s image has been brightened internationally,” the Chief Whip said.
Twenty-nine MPs across the board joined the discussion and thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her efficient and dynamic leadership in leading the country towards development. They also slammed BNP and its chief Khaleda Zia for what they said indulging in violence, negative politics, conspiracy and anti-people acts. The motion was passed in voice vote after nearly a three-hour discussion on it. Some senior ministers and ruling alliance MPs, including Mohammad Nasim, Rashed Khan Menon and Suranjit Sengupta, voiced their doubt about the real motive behind the IRI survey. Taking part in the discussion, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said Bangladesh is now not only a potential country but also a reputable and dignified one due to bold and foresighted leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina.
He said Sheikh Hasina is working to materialise Bangabandhu’s dream of building Bangladesh as a prosperous country though attempts was made 21 times to kill her.
Amu alleged that BNP is still making various plots to destroy the country as it has now no political existence.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said Sheikh Hasina is sincerely working risking her life to take the country forward as did her father Bangabandhu. “All the economic indicators are moving towards positive direction… even we’re much forward than India in social indicators.”
Health Minister Mohammad Nasim said Sheikh Hasina won the hearts of people by her various achievements, including resisting emergence of militancy, eradicating poverty, reaching the ICT service at every house and giving democratic organisations a strong institutional shape. He also said Khaleda Zia’s wrong political decisions, political vengeance, indulgence in violence, boycott of elections are the main reasons for increasing public support to Hasina and her party.
