Wife gets life term for killing husband

A court in Pirojpur sentenced a woman to life term imprisonment yesterday for killing her husband in 2007.  The same punishment was also handed down on her brother-in-law in the murder case.
The convicted are Nasima Akter, 27, wife of slain Kabil Howlader and her brother-in-law (husband’s brother) Habil Howlader of Betka village in Kawkhali upazila of the district. The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default, to suffer six more months in jail.  Nazim-Ud-Doullah, additional district and session judge of Pirojpur gave the verdict after examining the witnesses and other documents of the case.
Court sources said Kabil’s wife Nasima had illicit relation with her brother-in-law Habil. As they decided to get married, they killed Kabil by suffocating him with pillow on the night on July 12, 2007.  Later, they left stab marks on Kabil’s body and threw it into a canal in the village. On July 16, Pirojpur police recovered the floating body from Rajarkathi canal in Pirojpur sadar upazila. Later, Kabil’s wife and brother were arrested by the police.
