240 kg venison recovered

Bagerhat: Forest Department and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive recovered 240 kg venison from a boat in the Baleswar River at Napitkhali near the Sundarbans early yesterday, reports UNB.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Sundarbans East Zone Md Mahmudul Hasan said a joint team of the Forest Department and BGB conducted the drive in the area in the early hours and recovered the venison from the boat.

However, no one was there in the boat during the drive, he said.

Later, the seized venison was buried under ground.

UP member held with yaba tablets

Faridpur: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested a union parishad member along with yaba tablets from Sutashi village in Boalmari upazila on Thursday, reports UNB.

The arrestee was identified as Moti Kazi, 42, a member of ward non 7 in Boalmari union.

Additional superintendent Md Rois Uddin, company commander of Rab-8, said that a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the village and arrested Moti along with 200 yaba tablets.

The arrestee was handed over to Boalmari Police Station.

A case was filed.

Underprivileged children get birth certificate in Faridpur

FARIDPUR: Around 200 unprivileged children born in brothel here received birth registration certificates, reports BSS.

The certificates have been handed over among the children of Rathkhola and C&B ghat brothels with the joint venture of Faridpur Municipality and Shapla Mohila Unnayan Sangstha, a local NGO.

Mahatab Ali Methu, mayor of Faridpur municipality, said,” The children born in brothels have been facing many problems without their birth registration certificate for long. We are happy as we can provide them birth certificates for the first time.” Proshanto Saha, project director of the Shapla Mohila Unnayon Sangstha, said, Faridpur Municipality has set a rare example to establish the right of unprivileged children by giving birth certificates.

Over 1,640mt VGF rice allocated for Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA: The government has allocated one thousand and 640 metric tonnes (MTs) of rice for the distressed and ultra poor of the district on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festival under vulnerable group feeding (VGF) programme, reports BSS.

Sources with the district relief and rehabilitation office said the rice would be distributed to 1, 64, 035 VGF card holders of all the seven upazilas including three pourasabhas of the district before the Eid-ul-Fitr.

Of the total, 26814 cards were allocated for Fulchhari upazila, 28,899 for Sundarganj upazila, 15,160 for Shaghata upazila, 28,252 for Gobindaganj upazila, 15,762 for Sadullapur upazila, 23,752 for Sadar upazila and 13, 073 for Palashbari upazila.

Apart from this, 4621 cards were allocated for Gaibandha Pourasabha and Gobindaganj Pourasabha each and 3081 cards for Sundarganj Pourasabha, the sources said.

Each of the beneficiaries would get 10 KGs of rice so that they could celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals for the Muslims, without any hurdle, said District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer AKM Idris Ali.
