CHITTAGONG: Officials of Customs Intelligence seized 675 cartons of foreign cigarettes at Shah Amanat International Airport yesterday afternoon. Acting on a tip-off, the officials recovered the cigarettes, worth around Tk one crore, from cargo department of the airport, said Dr Moinul Khan, Director General of the Directorate of Customs Intelligence, Chittagong Office. The cigarettes were brought in seven baggage through a flight of Air Arabia on August 10 last, Dr Moinul said adding that the Customs Intelligence was investigating to find out the passenger who brought the cigarettes. Another report adds: A mobile court of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) yesterday fined nine vessels a total of Tk three lakhs and five thousand on different grounds. CPA Authorized Officer and Executive Magistrate Mohammad Abul Hashem conducted the mobile court and fined the vessels for different reasons, including overloading, blocking the port channel, not keeping safety appliances and not keeping certificates by the masters and drivers of the vessels. CPA prosecution officer Arefin and peshkar Aminul Islam accompanied the executive magistrate during the drive.
