Swadhin, Suchona keep going

Top seed Swadhin Hossain of Bangladesh had to play three sets to down his compatriot Aurnab Saha in the boys’ singles quarterfinal of Bengal Asian 14/U Series Tennis Tournament. Like his first match, Swadhin, top seed of first phase, came back from one set down to win his quarterfinal match 1-6, 6-0, 6-1 yesterday at the National Tennis Complex in the capital.
Second phase top seed Mohammad Ishtiaq also moved into the semifinal beating Mehdi Hasan also of Bangladesh 6-2, 6-1. Bangladesh players also won the remaining two quarterfinal berths. Tamin Bin Zahid (Bangladesh) beat Naimul Islam (Bangladesh) 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 and Zubin Omar (Bangladesh) beat  Faridur Reza (Bangladesh) 6-4, 6-4.
Bangladesh girls also maintained their supremacy in the singles event. Top seed Fahiha Lamisa Suchona will meet another Bangladeshi contender Popy Akhter in the final. Suchona beat Sadia Akhter of Bangladesh 6-2, 6-3, while Popy Akhter defeated her compatriot Ety Akhter 6-2, 6-2 in the two semifinals.
Naimul & Ishtiaq of Bangladesh toppled Swadhin Hossain & Rakib Hossain 7-5, 6-2, Mehedi & Saikat (Bangladesh) beat Pasha (India) & Nishad (Bangladesh) 6-4, 6-2,  Afridi & Zubin (Bangladesh) beat Noor & Tasfiq (Bangladesh) 6-1, 6-1 and Hridoy & Aurnab (Bangladesh) beat Avijit Singh & Manab Jain (India) 6-0, 6-1 in the four quarterfinals of boys’ doubles event. Ety Akhter & Popy Akhter of Bangladesh beat  Sraboni Biswas & Fabia of Bangladesh 7-5, 6-1, while Sadia & Srabanti of Bangladesh defeated Sumaya & Aditi of Bangladesh in the two girls’ doubles semifinals.
