National Athletics from today

AKM Samsuzzoha Smriti 39th National Athletics competition will kick-start today at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. In the three-day competition, the main attraction of the meet 100 metere sprint of both men and women will take place tomorrow at 5pm and 5:15pm respectively. The heats of this two events will be held at 9am for men and 9:45am for women on same day.
Samsuzzoha Foundation, who was the title sponsor of the National Junior Athletics competition, also came forward to sponsor the 39th edition of the national meet. The Samsuzzoha Foundation, who announced to continue their sponsorship for the development of the country’s athletics during the National Junior meet, is going on with patronising the national meet.
The organisers are expecting more than 500 athletes from across the country will participate in the 39th edition of the National Athletics.
Ibrahim Chengis, general secretary of the Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF) stated  all in a press conference yesterday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium auditorium.
Imtenan Osman (Ayon Osman), grandson of late Samsuzzoha, one of the Language Movement martyrs and Swadhinata Padak awardee, was present in the press meet. Chengis replying to queries said that they have a very minimum grant from the National Sports Council (NSC) for training as they cannot manage long time training camp.
Chengis also said that the athletics’ track of the Bangabandhu Stadium is going to be damaged due to multipurpose uses, while the former national athletes said that the cycling federation also practice here, which is the cause of damaging the track.
