Bangladesh Police has identified 158 damaged points, including bridges, in capital Dhaka and on national highways across the country, which may hamper smooth vehicular movement ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, reports UNB. Around six to seven million people are expected to leave the capital city for their respective village homes to celebrate the Eid holidays with their near and dear ones. Sources at the police headquarters said it has sent letter to the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry urging the latter to immediately repair those damaged points of roads and bridges to let pass the passenger transports, carrying home goers, from the capital city smoothly.
The letter routed through the Home Ministry also requested to complete the patch-up works before beginning of the Eid holidays. Otherwise, image of the government will be tarnished due to public sufferings on the highways, it said.
The Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to be celebrated in the country on June 15 depending on the moon sighting.
Damaged points of city streets include - nine damaged points in Sabujbagh thana areas, two each in Shyampur and Motijheel, three in Khilgaon, Dakkhin Khan, one damaged point each in Sutrapur, Mirpur, Pallabi, National Press Club, Paltan,Turagh, Demra, Badda and Lalbagh, and six in Mohammadpur areas.
Besides, 16 damaged points have been identified in Dhaka, Naryangong and Gazipur highways, 33 on Dhaka-Bagura highway, 53 on Dhaka-Madaripur highway and 23 on Dhaka-Khulna highway.
Contacted, Additional DIG (Intelligence and Special Affairs) of the Police Headquarters Moniruzzaman said the police headquarters have identified over 100 damaged points of roads and bridges across the country.
He said that they've sent the letter at the beginning of Ramadan urging for immediate repairs, otherwise public sufferings will increase on the highways.
