‘Robber’ lynched in Jashore
Jashore: A suspected robber was killed in a lynch-mob attack on Jashore-Magura highway adjacent to Nongarpur Bazar in the district town early yesterday, reports UNB.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately, said Inspector (operation) Shamsuddoha of Kotwali Police Station.
Locals chased a gang of robbers while they were committing robbery in the area and caught one of them, he said.
They gave him good thrashing, leaving him critically injured.
On information, police rescued him and took him to Jashore General Hospital where the duty doctors declared him dead.
OC withdrawn for ‘taking bribe’
Chuadanga: The officer-in-charge (OC) of Damurhuda police station was withdrawn to the district police lines on Monday following various allegations including taking bribe from drug traders, reports UNB.
Several allegations were filed against OC Akram Hossain including taking bribe from a listed drug peddler of Darshana promising not to arrest him, said sources at the police station said.
The OC also helped the drug trader to flee away from the area, they alleged.
Following the allegations, Akram was closed to district police lines on Monday night around 11pm, said Mahbubur Rahman, superintendent of Chuadanga Police.
A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident, he added.
Woman killed ‘by brother’

A woman was killed allegedly by her mentally challenged brother at Eklashpur village in Faridganj upazila on Monday noon.
The deceased was identified as Nurjahan Begum, 50, wife of Ali Akbar of the village.
Victim’s husband Ali Akbar said the alleged killer Abdul Kadir has been mentally imbalanced for long. They took him to many doctors for treatment at different times. He was staying with them for last several months after completing his treatment.
But on Monday noon, Kadir relapsed into his past behavior for which his sister rebuked him.
At one stage, Kadir started to beat Nurjahan, leaving her critically injured. Later, she was taken to local hospital where the duty doctor declared her dead.
Police on being notified arrested him over this incident and Nurjahan’s body was sent to Chandpur General Hospital for autopsy, said Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of Faridganj Police Station.
Road crash kills two in Jashore

Two mango traders were killed and three others injured as a bus rammed a human hauler on Jashore-Benapole highway in Shyamlagachi area of Sharsha upazila early yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Jahidul Islam, 27 and Ziarul Islam, 35, residents of Kumira area of Jhikargaccha upazila.
Politon Mia, sub-inspector of Navaran Highway police, said the accident took place around 4 am as a Dhaka-bound bus hit the human hauler (locally named as Nasiman) when a group of mango traders was going to Sharsha for collecting mangos, leaving the duo dead on the spot and three injured.
Five fishermen held while catching fish illegally
Bagerhat: Members of Smart (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool) Patrolling team in a drive arrested five fishermen while they were catching fish illegally without getting permission from Bandeali canal at Katka sanctuary of Sundarbans in Sharankhola upazila on Monday, reports UNB.
The arrested fishermen are-Shahidul Islam, 35, Abdul Halim, 20, Saiful Islam, 22, Sobhan Ali, 26, and Badal Hossain, 25, of Patharghata upazila in Barguna district.
Tipped off, a team of Smart Patrolling conducted a drive in the deep forest of Sundarbans and arrested them while catching fish at Katka sanctuary around 10am, said Mahmudul Hasan, divisional forest officer of Sundarbans East Zone.
