Accused in murder case dies in Jashore police custody

Jashore: A murder case accused died allegedly in police custody during remand at Bagherpara Police Station here on Monday evening, reports UNB.

The deceased was Tanmay Kundu, 20, son of Tanay Kundu of Narkelbaria village of Bagherpara upazila.

Sub-inspector Shah Alam, also the case investigator, said Tanmay was taken to Bagherpara Police Station for one day’s remand. But the duty constable reported finding Tanmay in senseless condition at the bathroom of the jail in the evening. Later, he was taken to Bagherpara Hospital for treatment but he died on the way to the hospital, said duty doctor Israt Naznin. It is primarily assumed that he might have died due to heart attack, she added.

Monjurul Alam, officer-in-charge of Bagherpara Police Station, said Tanmay committed suicide by hanging himself at the jail bathroom.

Earlier on May 12, police arrested Tanmay and his mother Aparna Kundu over Asaduzzaman murder on May 11, an office assistant of Balarampur Madrasa.
