286 cases filed for driving on wrong side

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in a daylong drive on Saturday filed 286 cases on charges of driving on wrong sides. Traffic division in their simultaneous drives on the city streets filed a total of 2,904 cases against different modes of vehicles for traffic rule violations and realized Taka 15.87 lakh as fine, said an official release.

As many as 78 other cases for using hydraulic horn, seven for using hotter and beckon light and 15 others for using tinted glass.

Some 77 cases, including 54 video cases, were lodged against drivers of different modes of vehicles on charges of talking over mobile phone while they were driving.

Two murder accused held   

Within 24 hours of the murder of an elderly woman, police managed to arrest two accused here early Sunday.

A police team in an overnight drive arrested two accused--Biplab and Abbas, said Nezam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sadarghat Police Station. In primary interrogation, they confessed to killing Manju Sen, he added.

Earlier on Saturday noon, police recovered the body of an elderly woman, Manju Sen, 77, wife of Manik Chandra Sen, from Naval Jetty no 2.

Manju Sen, resident of Shibbari area in Firingibazar, went missing soon after she went out from her house for a morning walk.
