Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn arrives in the capital today on a four-day royal visit to Bangladesh to see various philanthropic projects undertaken by a foundation named after her father late king Bhumibol. The princess will lead an 11-member ‘high profile’ Thai government delegation in connection with philanthropy projects she set up in Bangladesh in 2011 under her father, late King Bhumibols’s Royal Chai Pattana Foundation, said a press release issued by embassy in Bangkok yesterday.
The state minister for foreign affairs, Shahriar Alam, will receive the Thai royalty at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. While in Bangladesh, the princess is scheduled to call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and foreign minister Ali, and exchange views with agriculture minister Matia Chowdhury and culture minister Asaduzzaman Noor as well as other dignitaries.
She is also scheduled to visit various ongoing royal projects in Bangladesh, under the Royal Chaipattana Foundation including public health and sanitation projects for school children, sustainable agriculture projects for farmers in Bangladesh and the Sufficiency Economy Learning Centre at the Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation all under the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy pioneered by her late father King Bhumibol.
During the visit, the Thai princess is also scheduled to inaugurate a new environmental conservation project in collaboration with the environment and forest ministry titled “Bangladesh-Thailand Vetiver Grass Development Project to prevent hill erosion in Chattogram” on 30 March at the Tiger Pass in Chattogram City.
