Two ‘JMB men’ held in Natore
Natore: Detectives in a drive arrested two suspected members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Chandrapur in Gurudaspur upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
The arrestees were identified as Amir Hamja and Golam Hossain of the same village.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Detective Branch of police conducted a drive around 1:30 am and arrested them from a banana orchard. Police also recovered a laptop, ATM cards, Jihadi books, leaflets and some religious books from their possession.
Prisoner dies in Laxmipur jail
Laxmipur: A prisoner died at the district jail here on Monday, reports UNB.
The deceased is Abdur Razzak Ripon, 45, son of Abdul Haque of Banchanagar in Sadar upazila. He was arrested in a GR case.
Jailer Shah Alam said Ripon was attacked by chickenpox coupled with fever four days back.
He was taken to Sadar Hospital around 5pm after his condition deteriorated. However, he died at the hospital around 6:30pm, the jailer added.
Man found dead in Natore
Natore: Police recovered the body of a shopkeeper from Adgram village in Baraigram upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Alif Hossain, son of Faij Uddin of the village.
Saikat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Baraigram Police Station, said Alif went to his father-in-law’s house in neighboring Talso village to meet his wife but he did not return home.
Locals found the body in a paddy field in the morning and informed police, he said.
On information, police recovered the body. In primary investigation, it is assumed that Alif might be beaten to death by miscreants, said the OC.
Road crash kills 2 in Jhenaidah

Two motorcyclists were killed as a speeding truck ran over the motorcycle at Narayankandi village in Harinakundu upazila on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Mokhles, son of Sher Ali of Ghoshbila village in Alamganda upazila of Chuadanga district and Rigan, son of Azizul Mondol of Pachlia village in the same upazila here.
Kazi Ayubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Harinakundu Police Station, said the a sand laden truck from behind ran over the motorcycle at noon, leaving them dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the bodies and sent it to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC added.
52 held in anti-drug drive
JHENIDAH: Police in an anti-drug drive arrested 52 people from various upazilas of the district from last night till yesterday morning, reports BSS.
Among the detainees 13 people were arrested from Sadar upazila, 10 arrested in Shoilokopa, 3 in Harinakunda, 7 from Kaliganj Upazila, 19 people held from Kotchandpur and Moheshpur Upazila of the district.
Police Super Mizanur Rahman said a special drive against drug and terrorism is being conducted in the district.
Police also seized illegal drugs during the drive.
Deep tube wells distributed
DINAJPUR: Samaj Unnayan Proshikkhon Kendra (SUPK), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), distributed deep tube wells among 27 poor families at Khansama upazila of the district yesterday, reprots BSS.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali distributed the deep tube wells as the chief guest at a simple function on Sapla Girls School and College premises at the upazila.
SUPK organised the programme under its Watson project with the assistance of Bangladesh NGO Foundation.
Upazila Chairman Shahiduzzaman Shah, Acting Upazila Nibahi Officer (UNO) Md Solaiman Ali and Executive Director of SUPK Md Mozaffar Hossain were present, among others, on the occasion.
