Gary Kirsten, former batsman of South Africa, has been working for Bangladesh as the team consultant not to be a batting consultant of the Bangladesh Team.
Kirsten is auditing the Tigers’ internal aspects from where he will explore what is much needed for the development of the team further and then suggested the board. Therefore, he will give an assessment of the coaches what is needed for the team’s requirement.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury made the revelation to media at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
“Actually Gary Kirsten is doing an internal audit of the Bangladesh Team for the nonce. Keeping the next competitions under ICC especially ICC World Cup and World T20, he is watching by analysing how Bangladesh team could develop and what is needed much for the team right now. He will inform the board in these regard,” said Nizamuddin Chowdhury.
“Along with that, he is also working in appointing coaching staffs especially head coach. We’ve meanwhile given a short list of coaches to him. Kirsten has some coaches’ names in his possession also. After analysing the internal situation of the team, he will provide his suggestion to the board in which areas we’ve to work more for the development further. He will then suggest us which coach is more effective for us,” Chowdhury told reporters.
“Analysing the team is more important for us. He is trying to sit with players individually as a part of internal audit. Even he has also plan to sit with the officials linked to the national team especially selector and board directors,” he added.
After arriving here in Dhaka on Saturday evening, the sexagenarian coach, who succeeded in his first coaching stint while he championed India in World Cup, started his individual session with players at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel.
He called Mashrafee Bin Mortaza, Tamim Iqbal, Mahmuduallah Riyad, Mushfiqur Rahim to talk with them individually. He will also talk with others by rotation if he things needed.
It is learnt from the BCB CEO that Kirsten during his IPL stint for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who missed to make their place in play-offs, talked with Bangladesh Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan, who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad and cutter-master Mustafizur Rahman, who plays for Mumbai Indians.
Asked when the process will be ended, Nizamuddin said, “Our target is to finish the process before the West Indies tour. We’ll take our next decision as per the process of the work and its situation.
“The names we have sent it to Gary Kirsten. He starts his works after coming in Bangladesh that’s not meaning that he starts his works just now. He starts his works when he was in India. He has communicated with them whose names we sent to him. Even he held discussion with those who have contracts with him.”
“It’s not right now. He will take decision after analyzing the team. Then we’ll extend our hand to appoint coaching staffs,” he signed off.
