BNP senior leader Abdullah Al Noman yesterday said Awami League has become politically 'naked' in snatching people's voting right, reports UNB. "Awami League is now openly plundering money, exploiting people and snatching their rights. They don't feel ashamed of snatching people's voting and other rights as they've got politically naked," he said. Speaking at a discussion, the BNP leader also said there is no alternative to waging a strong movement to ensure people's voting rights and get rid of the current 'naked government's rule'.
Desh Bachao, Manush Bachao Andolon (save country, save people movement) arranged the programme at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) demanding the release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and some other party leaders.
Noman, a BNP vice chairman, said BNP leaders and activists together with people must take to the streets to have Khaleda Zia released from jail.
He said opposition parties had defeated autocratic rulers Ayub Khan, Yahya Khan and HM Ershad not with arms and booms in the past, but with sticks and brick chips. "The current situation is also not different. No movement would be fruitful without taking to the streets. BNP must lead people in the street movement."
About the Khulna city polls, Noman said the ruling party men rigged votes in the polls with the help of the election commission.
He said no fair and credible election is possible to conduct by the current commission as it is acting as per the government's desires.
