2 to die, one gets life for murder in 2 dists

Bagerhat, Netrakona: Two people were sentenced to death while a man was sentenced to life term imprisonment for murder in Bagerhat and Netrakona districts yesterday, reports UNB.

In Bagerhat, a court yesterday sentenced a woman and her lover to death for killing her husband over extramarital relationship in 2015. The convicts are-Fatema Begum, 46, wife of Al Amin Sheikh, and Shahjahan Sheikh, 60 of Dakkhin Kumariajola village in Morelganj upazila.

The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each. They were also sentenced to seven years imprisonment and fine of Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in rigorous imprisonment, in another section of the case.

According to the prosecution, Al Amin Sheikh had gone missing after going out for his son's residence in Keraniganj of Dhaka on March 16, 2015.

Mohammad Ali, son of Al Amin lodged a general diary with Keraniganj Police Station on the following day.

After tracking the mobile phone, police unearthed the body of Al Amin from the kitchen room of his house.

Police arrested Al Amin's wife Fatema in this connection who later gave a confessional statement admitting her guilt before the court. A case was filed with Morelganj Police Station. Police submitted chargesheet against Fatema, her lover Shahjahan and her neighbour Saiful Sheikh before the court on June 10, 2016.

After examining records and witnesses, Bagerhat Additional District and Session Judge Mohammad Zakaria Hossain handed down the verdict.

In Netrokona, a court here yesterday awarded life term imprisonment to a man in a case filed for killing a retired teacher of Barhatta upazila in the district in 2008, reports UNB.

The convict was identified as Anowar Mia, 30, son of Manjil Mia of Gavarkanda village in Barhatta upazila.

Netrokona District and Sessions Court Judge, KM Rasheduzzaman passed the order and also fined him Tk 25,000 or another two months jail in default.

According to the case statement, victim Mozammel Haque, retired teacher of Gorol primary School had dispute with another local teacher Md Ain Uddin, headmaster of Haziganj High School, over providing tuition to students.

On December 11 in 2008, Ain Uddin hired some miscreants who attacked the victim at Haziganj Bazar area leaving him seriously injured. Later on December 19, Mozammel succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
