Four held with one lakh yaba
Detective Branch (DB) of police yesterday arrested four suspected drug peddlers along with one lakh pieces of contraband yaba tablets from the city’s Bimanbandar area.
“We arrested four drug peddlers, Babul Alam, 34, Ayatullah, 25, Helaluddin, 35, and Motaleb, 32, and seized one lakh pieces of yaba tablets from Bimanbandar Rail Station area around 6pm yesterday,” said a DB official.
The arrestees confessed their link to yaba trading saying that they have brought yaba tablets in Dhaka from Chittagong region by trains and sold those to different parts of the capital city.
Boy hurt while taking selfie dies
Chattogram: The teenage boy who sustained injuries while taking selfie in front of a moving train died while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital on Saturday noon.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Hasan, 15, son of Alauddin Ahmed of Lalbagh area in Sitakunda upazila.
Deceased’s relative Mohammad Zafar Ahmed said Hasan was admitted to CMCH on Friday noon as he and his friend sustained injuries while taking selfie on the rail tracks.
Later in the night, his friend Mohammad Sahed, 16, son of Abdur Sattar of Kadamrasul area, scrambled to injuries.
On Friday, two friends were returning home after Jummah prayer. On the way they were taking selfie standing aside the rail tracks when a train hit them, said Sub-inspector Alauddin Talukdar of CMCH Police Outpost.
Woman killed in road crash
Sylhet: A woman was killed while three minors sustained injuries in a road accident on Sylhet-Zakiganj road at Hatimganj Nayamasjid area on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Anni Begum, 20, daughter of Juru Mia of Gopalganj upazila.
The injured were identified as Jenny Akter, 24, Sumaya Akter, 6, daughters of Ataur Rahman and Tawhid Ahmed, 5, of the same upazila.
The accident took place when a speedy private car tried to overtake a CNG-run auto-rickshaw leaving four auto-rickshaw passengers injured, according to the witnesses. Locals took them to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared Anni Begum dead.
Gopalganj Police Station OC AKM Fazlul Haq Shibly said police seized the private car and the auto-rickshaw but could not manage to arrest anyone.
3 shops fined in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A mobile court fined three consumers shops a total of Tk 29,500 on charge of selling goods in higher rate than the fixed price.
District administration conducted the mobile court in Shaheb Bazar and Haragram Bazar in the city on saturday. The court found a poultry bird shop and two vegetable shops guilty of selling goods on exorbitant price.
Subsequently, the court fined the shops Tk 29,500 and realised the fine instantly.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Salahuddin, Additional District Magistrate Subrata Paul and Executive Magistrates Sharif Ashraf Rahman, Sharmin Akter and Taslima Jahan took part in conducting the mobile court. Salahuddin said that such type of mobile courts will be conducted in the days ahead for consumers’ rights protection.
2 killed in separate incidents
Two young men were killed in separate incidents in Kamlar Jinzira and Boktarpur areas on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Bulbul Ahmed, 32, of Kochua village in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur district and Mithu Sardar, 30, of Shamnagar village in Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat district.
Bulbul, a worker of Process Industries Limited located at Kamlar Jinzira, was killed on the spot in an accident while working with a pump machine.
Another victim Mithu, a covered van helper, was killed after being electrocuted while unloading goods from the covered van in Boktarpur area.
