Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said the advancement of democracy will be continuing in the country and the next general election will be held as per constitution whether the BNP joins it or not, reports BSS.
“The next parliament elections will be held as per constitution whether you (BNP) take part or not. An inclusive election will be held if BNP takes part,” he said, speaking at a discussion at Mohanagar Nattyamancha in city's Gulistan area. Awami Juba League (AJL) organised the discussion marking AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Homecoming Day.
AJL General Secretary Md Harunur Rashid, Presidium Members Md Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, Shahid Serniyabat, Mahbubur Rahman Hiron, Md Faruqe Hossain, Ataur Rahman, Dhaka city South AJL unit President Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, General Secretary Ismail Hossain and Dhaka city North unit General Secretary Md Rezaul Haque Reza, among others, addressed the discussion with AJL Chairman Mohammad Omar Faruque in the chair.
Quader said BNP doesn't want neutral Election Commission and neutral judiciary. They want 'nationalist' Election Commission and 'nationalist' judiciary, he added.
He said an effective understanding is not possible between Awami League and BNP.
The AL general secretary said BNP has liberty to participate in the upcoming national polls. The election must be held in time in accordance with the constitution.
