The sufferings of a large number of college admission-seekers through the online system are still persisting, with complaints galore that their admission forms are being filled up by unknown persons or their college authorities without their approval. The complainants said they have failed to submit their applications as the online system gives them information to the effect that “their forms have already been filled up”.
On receiving such information, they naturally get shocked and become anxious. They wonder what would happen if they fail to submit their forms as the deadline of filling up forms approaches. The last date is May 24.
Under these circumstances, such applicants from distant parts of the country are converging on the office of the Dhaka Education Board to find a solution as the Dhaka Board is acting as the inter-board coordination subcommittee for nine boards to supervise the online admission process.
Faruk Ahmed, who passed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations from Bagher Bazar High School in Gazipur, came to the Dhaka Board early yesterday (Sunday) morning.
He was seen asking several persons on the board’s premises about a solution to his problem. As he said, he found that his application has been filled up but he has no idea how it happened. He finally reached the college inspector’s office on the fourth floor of the building, where he found many other admission-seekers with the same problem.
The complainants were seen standing in queues before a couple of rooms to submit their application forms with requests to cancel their fake applications and allow them to apply again.
“I tried to apply through the online system for college admissions four days ago, but I couldn’t do so as the system indicates that my form has been filled up. I’m in a fix,” Faruk told The Independent yesterday.
“I tried to contact the Dhaka Board through its hotline numbers but could not reach it. I have finally come here. I have submitted my application seeking cancellation of the fake application,” he added.
The board authorities have told him to try and fill up the forms today (Monday), assuring him that the problem would be solved within 24 fours, he added.
Jalal Uddin has come to the board from Faridpur as the application form of his daughter, Jannatul Ferdous, has been filled up by someone else. They came to know of it last Wednesday, when they tried to fill up the form, he added.
“The board authorities told me to try again on Monday. We don’t know what happened. It has caused considerable suffering to us,” he added.
Yunus Ali has come from Narayanganj on behalf of her daughter Omiya seeking cancellation of the online application as her daughter’s form has already been filled up by someone else.
Sujon has come to submit applications stating that his brother and sister are not getting the mobile SMSs that contain the security code. This is necessary for the admission process to proceed further.
“Both my younger brother and sister applied four days ago but they have still not got any mobile SMS. The board has told us that it would be solved,” he added.
The board authorities said they have set up the options on the online site http://xiclassadmission.gov.bd/ to recover the security code or register changes in mobile numbers by providing the necessary information. Applicants, however, can recover their security code only once.
To cancel fake applications, the admission-seeker has to submit his/her admit card, registration card, mark-sheet/transcript along with the application.
“We are getting scores of complaints everyday against fake applications. We have formed two cells to work on the issue. We are solving such problems everyday. It is a source of great trouble, both for the board and the admission-seekers,” the college inspector of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka, Prof. Harun Or Rashid, told The Independent.
“We are solving these problems as soon as possible because people are coming from great distances. This concerns the lives of the students,” he added.
He also warned that the board would take action by July against the college authorities responsible involved in such offences i.e. filling up forms without the permission of the candidates.
Board sources said over 10 lakh applications had been submitted till today.
