Widow ‘commits suicide’ in Brahmanbaria

A 50-year-old widow allegedly committed suicide at Chor-Chartola village in Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria district on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Shirina Akter, 50, wife of late Mustofa Mia of Chor-Chartola village.

According to sources, she hanged herself from the ceiling of her house failing to bear the expenses of her family.

Police recovered the body from her house on Sunday morning. Officer-in-charge of Ashuganj Police Station Badrul Alam Talukder said the deceased lost her husband four years back. The couple has seven sons and two daughters. Daughters were married off and two of her sons had also been separated after getting married. They did not look after their mother and other five minor brothers. The woman might have committed suicide being disappointed, the OC added.

An unnatural death case was filed with Ashuganj Police Station in this regard.
