Bangladesh former head coach Gordon Greenidge on Wednesday accompanied by his wife Patricia Greenidge visited at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur on the third day of his five-day visit to Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury greeted Greenidge by a bouquet of flowers and fetched him to his BCB office.
They were flunked by BCB director Enayet Hossain Siraj and other BCB officials, went to President Box of the country’s Home of Cricket after holding talks for some minutes.
Therefore Gordon, who had guided Bangladesh to clinch the 1997 ICC Trophy after taking the charge of the Tigers just five-month before the tournament, observed a greenery view of the stadium from the grand stand.
The sexagenarian Greenidge then went to National Cricket Academy (NCA) ground, where Bangladesh preliminary squad was practicing to hone their skills and technique at the evening session for the next away series against Afghanistan and West Indies.
All-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad welcomed Gordon Greenidge with a bouquet of flowers. Then Bangladesh one-day captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza presented him a signature-implanted Bangladesh Team jersey, while wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim followed Mashrafe and handed over a signature-inserted cap to Greeenidge.
The 67-year-old West Indies former batting legend delivered some invaluable talks for the players, who were hearing his words with pin drop silence.
He suggested the players that they should focus on accumulating big total on board while they will play one-day cricket. He also told them to play with some bit of aggression.
Since then, he asked the players who bat in opening-stand and then Soumya Sarkar and Tamim Iqbal raised their hands in response to his calling. The West Indian batting genius told them to bat reshuffling their position.
Before taking his farewell from the players, he took part a group photo session with the players.
He thereby entered into the NCA gymnasium which was furnished with modern practice facilities that drew his praise. Recently, it was equipped further with newly-brought spring cycles and other ingredients.
In addition, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) arranged a reception programme in honour of its former head coach Gordon Greenidge at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel on Monday, one day after his arrival in Bangladesh following an 18-year-long hiatus.
Last time Gordon had visited Bangladesh in 2000 at an invitation of the BCB when Bangladesh had played their debut Test match against neighbouring India.
The Barbados-born legend will fly to Caribbean Islands on Friday after the conclusion of his five-day visit in Bangladesh.
