A joint meeting of BNP was held yesterday at the party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in the capital yesterday calling for the release of their imprisoned leader. Starting at 4:30pm continued for four hours the meeting, which was presided over by the party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, was addressed by as many as 30 leaders.

‘Country’s overall political situation, city corporation elections and Khaleda Zia’s release from jail came up in the meeting for discussion but no decision was taken’ said Fakhrul emerging from the meeting.

‘But the leaders who spoke on the occasion voiced their demands that Khaleda Zia must be released from jail before the national polls,’ he added in his shortest possible brief.

The meeting was attended among others by standing committee members, vice-chairmen, joint secretaries, organizing secretaries, associate organisation leaders.
