BANDARBAN: Army troops yesterday arrested two suspected members of an armed tribal outfit, raiding an area at remote Ramachar Uparpara of Ruma upazila here, police said, reports BSS. Officer-in-charge of Ruma police station Sariful Islam told newsmen that the troops detained Mihir Chakma, 33, and Ukaching Marma, 23 and seized from them two foreign made weapons, 70 bullets and Tk 2 lakh in cash.
He said the two were believed to be members of an outfit in the hills which extort people using weapons.
"The army carried out the raid early in the morning on a secret tip off and then handed them over to us (police) for subsequent legal actions," the officer said.
Man killed in clash over land
Habiganj: A man was killed and ten others injured in a clash between two rival groups over a land-related dispute at Kalikapur village in Madhabpur upazila on Saturday evening, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Zia Uddin Zeru, 55, a resident of the village.
Quoting locals, police said two groups - one led by Zia and the other by Saifuddin Swapan -- of the village had long been at loggerheads over the ownership of a piece of land.
Over the issue, supporters of the two groups equipped with home-made weapons locked into a bloody
clash in the evening which left 11 people including Zia injured.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control after half an hour of frantic efforts.Later, the injured were rushed to Madhabpur Health Complex where doctors declared Zia dead.
Police also arrested Swapan Miah from the hospital in this connection. Molla Monir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Madhabpur police station, confirmed the incident.
There also had taken place a murder incident in 2010 over the issue, added the OC.
Youth jailed for teasing
Sunamganj: A mobile court on Saturday sentenced a man to six months’ jail for teasing a schoolgirl at Halidakanda village in Dharmapasha upazila of Sunamganj, reports UNB.
The convict was identified as Cornel Miah, 22, a resident of the village.
Sub-inspector of Dharmapasha police station Rubel Miah said Cornel used to tease the schoolgirl on her way to and from school everyday.
 The victim’s father submitted a written complaint to the police  station at about 3:30pm.
Following the complaint, a team of police raided the area and arrested Cornel at about 4:30 pm.
Later, he was produced before the mobile court, led by executive magistrate Mohammad Nazmul Haque, which sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment.
