UNFPA representative calls on DU VC
United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative in Bangladesh Dr Asa Torkelsson paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman on Tuesday at DU.
Chairman of the Department of Population Sciences of DU Prof Mohammad Mainul Islam and Prof Md Aminul Haque were present on thisoccasion at Vice-Chancellor's office on the campus. During the meeting they stressed the need for strengthening ongoing joint collaborative academic and research programmes on maternal health, reproductive health, gender equality, prevention of gender-based violence and child marriage being conducted by the University of Dhaka and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
They also discussed the possibilities of joint research programmes on aging and unprivileged people of Bangladesh to ensure security in their family and social lives.
The VC sought cooperation from UNFPA Representative to promote Population Sciences Department at DU. UNFPA Representative assured the VC of providing all possible support and cooperation in this regard. The VC also thanked the guest for her visit to DU and hoped that the relationship between Dhaka University and UNFPA would be strengthened further in the days to come.
Freshers’ reception held at JnU
The fresher’s reception and farewell programme-2018 of the psychology department of Jagannath University (JnU) was held at the university central auditorium on Wednesday. The department welcomed the 13th batch and bid farewell to 6th batch in this programme.
JnU Vice-chancellor Prof Mijanur Rahman was the chief guest of the ceremony while Life & Earth Sciences Dean Prof Kazi Saifuddin was the special guests. Prof Ashok Kumar Saha, chairperson of the department, presided over the ceremony. A colorful cultural function was staged at the end of the ceremony. Teachers and students of different departments were present on the occasion.
JU pro-AL teachers’ assoc gets new committee
Pro-Awami League (AL) teachers’ association ‘Bangabandhur Adarsha O Muktijuddher Chetanay Bishwashi Pragatishil Shikkhak Shamaj’ nominated a three member new committee on Tuesday.
Prof Ajit Kumar Majumder of Statistics department and Associate Professor Farid Ahmed of Philosophy department were made President and Secretary of the new committee while Prof Alamgir Kabir of Statistics department was nominated as organising secretary. Newly nominated Secretary Associate Prof Farid Ahmed confirmed The Independent yesterday. “Primarily we have able to select three persons for the three persons in a general meeting. In very soon we will extend our committee”, he said.
