Bangladesh youth hockey team started their Thailand campaign with a convincing 10-4 goals after flattening their Singaporean counterparts in the opening fixture of the Pool-B of the 2018 Asian Youth Olympic Games Qualifier in Bangkok yesterday.
Bangladesh will next face Cambodia in their second encounter of the Qualifier at the same venue today. Malaysia, Pakistan and Chinese Taipei are the other teams of the Pool-B.
Mohammad Mohsin struck a hat-trick for the Bangladesh. Mohammad Shawon, Mohammad Abed Uddin, Mohammad Alam scored two goals apiece, while Mohammad Raqibul blasted one goal for the winning side.
On the other hand, Zulkarnain Muhammad Zaki and Vijayan Hariraj reduced the arrears for the Singapore after bagging two goals each.
Bangladeshi youth showcased their ascendancy from the initial stage of the match and led the first period 4-1 goals. They, therefore, scored the rest of the six goals evenly either of the second and third periods to extend their advantage further.
Nepal on the other hand attempted to come back and netted another three goals in the second period to reduce the margin though they did not make any goal in the third period. The referee exchanged green cards on two occasions both to Singapore’s Kumar Naveen in the initial seventh minute and captain Prebhash Akash in the 30th minute.
Pool-A of the Qualifier consists of Japan, South Korea, India, Thailand and Hong Kong China.
Only group champions will progress to the showpiece event of the Youth Olympic Games, which will be held in Buenos Aires in Argentina in October this year.
