Anti-JU VC teachers observe 2-hr strike

A faction of Pro-Awami League teachers continued their strike for the eight consecutive day yesterday demanding action against the teachers who allegedly assaulted their fellows on April 18.

As part of their protest, over 70 teachers took position in front of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice-Chancellor’s office about at 11am and continued the strike till 1pm.

These teachers also protested the violation of university acts, statutes and syndicate conducting rules by VC Prof Farzana Islam. Besides, they demanded the immediate removal of the university’s proctorial body for their controversial behavior when VC backed teachers assaulted their fellows. They also demanded the punishment of another faction of teachers who allegedly assaulted their fellows on April 18.

Spokesman of the anti-VC teachers Prof Farid Ahmed said, “Our colleagues have been assaulted by VC backed teachers. We demand immediate punishment of the teachers who assaulted our colleagues”.

He also denounced JU VC alleging that she violated university acts, statutes and syndicate conducting rules.

During their programme, the administrative works were remained stop. Mentionable, on April 18, six anti-VC teachers were allegedly assaulted by some VC backed teachers at JU Transport Dipo when they were observing daylong blockade to protest the irregularities of JU VC. Following the incident, these teachers group is continuing their protest by observing different programmes on the campus.
