The capital experienced its second nor’wester in two days howling in the streets with a peak speed reaching 74km per hour yesterday evening after a hot and humid day.
Earlier on Monday the mega city had its first blow from the season’s first nor’wester in the evening, whose peak speed was recorded at 83kmph. It caused widespread damages to its greenery, flattening trees along the avenues and on the parks in Dhaka but outside the capital the storm and accompanying lightning had killed 6 people in Habiganj.
The storm was followed by a little rain that caught the commuters and passersby unprepared on the street amid flashes of lightning illuminating the evening sky over the capital. It apprehended people in the streets of getting struck by the thunderbolts. The storm was felt more severely on open spaces like the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport where it blew over at 78kmph.
The Met Office recorded the nor’wester blowing at 74 kmph at 7-15pm. However, the damage or casualty from the storm was not immediately available.
The Met Office sources said they have received reports of nor’wester from the northern Bogura and Pabna districts.
