‘Paicho Chorer Kiccha’ on Mahila Samiti Mancha today

Theatre troupe Dhaka Padatik will stage its much-acclaimed production ‘Paicho Chorer Kiccha’ today at 7pm at the Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Mahila Samiti in Baily Road of the capital.

The play will be brought to the stage on the eleventh day of two-week festival ‘Baishakhi Natya Utsab’. Supported by Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, Mahila Samiti has organised the festival.

Based on a traditional folklore of Khulna, the script of the play is collected, written and directed by Kazi Chapal. ‘Paicho Chorer Kiccha’, the 33rd production by the troupe, is a kind of play that appeals to both a general audience and a critical one. The production which can be referred to a musical production opens with the setting of the story by a narrator. She, through her musical journey, narrates the life, fate and deeds of Paicho, the protagonist of the play. Paicho is assigned by the Kote Raja to steal a princess whom he loves. The Raja who gained kinghood in a bizarre turn of events is driven by a prophecy to marry her. So, he picks the best hand around and a learned one indeed and he sets out on his cross-country mission. The play concludes with the staging of the wedding ceremony of the princess with her beloved king. Paicho, who arranges the marriage, is behind all that happens in the play.

The cast of the play includes Kazi Shila, Masud Ahmed, Shaon Ray Chowdhury, Moushumi Islam, Shahnaz Joya, Debashish Foni, Shonita Nasrin and Kazi Somrat, among others.
