12 students get RU Dean’s Award

Twelve students of Rajshahi University (RU) under Arts Faculty received Dean's Award for their outstanding academic results in examinations in 2016. The award-recipients are: Shima Khatun (Philosophy), Syed Naimur Rahman (History), Irtifa Hassan (English), Manju Rani Das (Bangla), Zannati Kawnain Keya (Islamic History and Culture), Abul Futuhu (Arabic), Ashraful Islam (Islamic Studies), Joyshree Paul (Music), Zinat Ara Gulshana Marzia (Dramatics), Kabita Akter (Persian Language), Nazrina Akter (Sanskrit) and Nur Muhammad (Urdu). RU VC Prof Abdus Sobhan as the chief guest handed over the awards to the successful students at a function in the conference hall of Deans Complex on Monday afternoon.

Chaired by Arts Faculty Dean Prof FMAH Taqui, the ceremony was attended and addressed, among others, by Pro-VC Prof Ananda Kumar Saha, Treasurer Prof Mustafizur Rahman and Proctor Prof Lutfor Rahman.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sobhan urged the award recipients to engage them in nation building process through the best uses of their talents.

SEU celebrates Pahela Baishakh

Southeast University (SEU) organised a daylong programme for celebrating Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year 1425, on Tuesday on its permanent campus, at Tejgaon in the capital, says a press release

Vice-Chancellor of SEU Prof ANM Meshquat Uddin chaired the inaugural session while M Kamaluddin Chowdhury, Representative Member of BoT, was the chief guest.

Eminent film actor Riaz, actress Ishita and Tabarak Hossain Bhuiyan, Managing Director, Prime Bank Investment Limited, were the special guests. Different types of stalls were set up by various departments and clubs as a part of celebration. Later a cultural event was organized by cultural club where students of SEU performed.

SAU entrance test of Masters and PhD programme held

The Entrance test of Masters and PhD programme of South Asian University (SAU) was held on Sunday under the supervision of University Grants Commission (UGC) at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University.

The entrance test was held simultaneously throughout the South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC) regions at the same time and date, said press statement of UGC.

Prof Abdul Mannan, chairman of UGC, Dr Md Khaled, secretary of UGC, Dr Md Fakhrul Islam, joint-secretary of UGC, and Dr Pankaj Jaim, associate prof of Department of Mathematics in South Asian University in New Delhi of India visited the examination center. South Asian University is an international university established by the governments of the eight member nations of the SAARC.

SAU started its activities from the year of 2010. The university currently functions from New Delhi in India.

About 200 Bangladeshi students participated in the examination for the admission into Economics, Sociology, Biotechnology, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, International Relations, and Legal Studies.

The students, who will be qualified in the examination and get into admitted will receive twenty five thousand Rupees for PhD and fifteen thousand for Masters programme per month as scholarship.
