Lightning strikes kill 3 in Cumilla
Three people, including two women, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strike in Debidwar and Daudkandi upazilas of the district on Tuesday.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Police Station, said Rufia Begum, 60, wife of Siddique Mia of Gouripur union in Daudkandi upazila was killed after being hit by a thunderbolt while working at her filed in the evening. Besides, Azmeri Begum, 42, wife of Shamsul Haq Bhuiya of Goalmari union, was killed by lightning strike while serving water to her cattle.
In Debidwar upazila, Majibur Rahman Maju, 55 of Madhumura area was killed after being hit a thunderbolt while working at his field, said Hakim Khan, chairman of Dakkhin Gunaighar union.
Rivals attack Juba League leader
A local Juba League leader was seriously injured as a rival group allegedly attacked him over previous enmity in the capital's Adabar area on Tuesday.
Selim Ahmed Jiban, 32, president of ward no-100 Juba League (JL) unit, youth wing of ruling Bangladesh Awami League, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Contacted, Abdur Rahman, brother-in-law of inured JL leader, told the news man that Jiban along with his younger brother Rony went to Mansurabad of Adabar to visit a local fair Tuesday afternoon. When they were returning home riding on a motorcycle, 20 to 30 people, equipped with sharp weapons, stormed into them near a culvert of Mansurabad at around 5:30 pm.
The attackers, allegedly comprised of mostly the local JL activists, indiscriminately hacked Jiban and fled the scene. His younger brother Rony was also injured in the attack, he said. Being informed, a team of Adabar police station rushed to the spot and rescued them and then rushed to the DMCH, Abdur Rahman added. Replying to a question, he said the incident was happened due to previous rivalry.
2 killed in Ctg road crashes
Two women were killed in two separate road accidents in Mirsharai Upazila here on Tuesday.
One of the deceased was identified as Sajeda Begum, 42, wife of Akhter Hossain of Madhya Wahedpur village of the upazila while the other woman, aged around 42, could not be identified yet.
Sajeda was crushed under an unidentified vehicle around 8 am near Nizampur area said, Abul Hashem, sub-inspector of Niazmpur Police Investigation Centre.
Besides, police recovered the body of an unidentified woman near Borotakia Eye Hospitalearly Tuesday said, officer- in-charge of Jorarganj Highway Police Sohel Sarker.
Fake visa producing factory unearthed
Detective Branch (DB) of police on Tuesday unearthed a fake schengen visa producing factory and arrested four people in this connection from the capital’s Uttara area on Monday.
Detectives in a raid at Uttara from 11.30 am to 9.25 pm on Monday arrested four people, Ziaul Haque Juel, Zakaria Mahmud, Mahbubur Ragman and Mamun Hossain, along with a huge quantity of counterfeit visa manufacturing equipment, a DB official said. Fourteen Bangladeshi passports with schengen visa, fake vouchers of bank, a huge quantity of mate sticker paper, fake invitation of North Cyprus, bank guaranty papers, one CPU, one monitor, one scanner and a printer were seized from their possession, he also said. During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees confessed their link to send people abroad with fake visas, the DB official added.
Urs at Azimpur Dayera Sharif
The 225th Urs Mubarak of Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Mohammad Dayem (R), the founder of Azimpur Dayera Sharif Khankah, was held at Dayera Sharif in the capital yesterday, says a press release.
