NARAYANGANJ: A tribunal here on Wednesday convicted two members of banned militant outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and sentenced them to 20 years imprisonment each in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act, reports UNB. The convicted JMB men are Saiful Islam and Mafijul Islam. The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.
According to the prosecution, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Saiful along with huge arms and ammunition from Baina by-pass road in Tangail district on December 29, 2006. Following the confessional statement of Saiful, the elite force members arrested Mafijul from his house at Konabari in Sonargaon of Narayanganj district on January 1, 2017.
They also recovered 22 hand grenades and some explosives from his possession.
Later, RAB members filed a case with Sonargaon Police Station under the Explosive Substances Act.
After examining the records and witnesses, judge of Special Tribunal-7 Md Abdul Hannan handed down the verdict on Wednesday noon.
