The High Court yesterday granted anticipatory bail for eights weeks to BNP leader Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Anny in connection with a violence case. The case was filed with Paltan Police Station on charges of preventing law enforcers from discharging their duties, and violence during the agitation by BNP-led alliance on February 8 when a lower court sentenced BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a corruption case. In response to a bail petition, the vacation bench of the HC comprising Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo passed the order. Anny, who is the student affairs secretary of the BNP, appeared before the HC bench and sought bail in the case. Adv Johirul Islam Sumon appeared for Anny during the bail petition hearing in the Court.
