Boy shot to death

Police arrest two suspects

Police yesterday arrested two people in connection with their alleged involvement in the killing of a 12-year-old boy in Hatiya upazila of Noakhali district.

The arrested were identified as Md Galib, of Bachu Gali Bazar and Abdul Khalak, of Khabir Miah Bazar in the upazila.

Earlier on Monday, a 12-year-old boy was killed and his father injured after being shot by criminals in Noakhali’s Hatia municipality.

The deceased child was identified as Nirab, 12, a fifth grader at a local madrasa and son of Md Miraj Uddin, 32.

Miraj and Nirab were shot when local criminals fired shots at them at Miar Bazar around 7:30pm.

Nirab was first taken to Hatia Upazila Health Complex, and later to Noakhali General Hospital where he was declared dead around midnight.

Deputy Assistant Medical Officer of Hatia Health Complex Biman Chandra Acharya said Nirab had bullet injuries to the head and body. His father was shot on the hand and back.

One of victim’s relatives filed a case accusing 35 people in this connection, said Kamruzzaman Shikder, officer-in-charge of Hatiya police station.

Nor’wester kills one in Bhola

One person was killed, 50 others were injured and about 600 houses damaged as nor'wester lashed four upazilas of Bhola district early yesterday.

About 50 educational institutions in Bhola Sadar, Lalmohon, Monpura and Tajumudin upazilas were damaged during the nor’wester. When contacted, Habibul Hasan, upazila nirbahi officer of Lalmohon said they have enlisted at least 300 houses and preparation is being taken to provide financial assistance to the distressed families.

According to the sources of the Department of Agriculture Extension, Bhola the sudden storm caused huge damage to crops in char areas of the district.

2 to die for killing girl after rape

Natore: A court here yesterday sentenced two young men to death for killing a schoolgirl after rape in Naldanga upazila in 2015, reports UNB.

The condemned convicts are- Mobarak Hossain Kalu and Md Mithun.

According to the prosecution, Maya, a class V student of Yearpur Government Primary School and daughter of Jahurul Islam, went missing from her school on July 27, 2015.

Later, the body of the girl was recovered from a mango orchard near Barnoi river of the area.

Later, Jahurul filed a case accusing Mobarak and Mithun.

The convicts confessed to their guilt before the court after their arrest.

After examining all the records and witnesses, Mohammad Hasanuzzaman, judge of Natore Women Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, handed down the verdict.
