Call to end violence against women

RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a discussion here observed creating mass-awareness coupled with a changed social mindset could be the effective means of preventing all sorts of violence and repressions against women, reports BSS.

The observation came at a daylong orientation with leaders of influence at Durgapur Upazila Parishad hall room in the district on Tuesday.

District Information Office and Upazila administration jointly organized the meeting in association with Awareness Communication for Women and Child Development Programme.

Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Aminul Islam addressed the meeting as chief guest with Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Anwar Sadat in the chair.

Deputy Director of Divisional Directorate of Health Dr Gopendra Nath Achariya, Upazila Chairman Nazrul Islam, Vice-chairman Banesha Begum, Deputy Director of Department of Information Md Shamsuzzaman and Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat also spoke.

The discussants said more community participation is needed to build a society free from child marriage as it’s a precondition to end violence against women and along with improving their living and livelihood condition.
