Mercury rises at different places

The mercury started rising from yesterday in some parts of the country, including the capital, that recorded a maximum temperature of 36.5 degrees Celsius, a rise of 2.1C from 34.4C on Sunday. The country’s highest maximum temperature of 37.2C was recorded in both Khulna and Satkhira in the south-western region. It was the highest maximum since the heat started going up after a few days of cool, pleasant weather due to some rain storms across the country. A bit of rainstorms is likely today. As a result, the mercury would drop in the northern and central regions and parts of the south- west in Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna and Sylhet divisions. During the next two days, thundershowers and gusty winds are expected in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions, Arif Hossain, a meteorologist at the Dhaka weather office, told The Independent yesterday. Chances are that the weather would deteriorate from this afternoon, he added.
