The third Board of Directors’ meeting of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) led by its President Nazmul Hassan Papon will be held on Wednesday.
The meeting will start at 2:30pm at the BCB Management Office, Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS), Mirpur.
The appointment of the head coach for the Bangladesh team among the issues will obviously get the top priority of the discussion.
BCB is yet to fetch anyone to fill up the void what remained vacant after Chandika Hathurusingha’s abrupt resignation from the head coach post in November 2017. English coach Richard Pybus and West Indian coach Phil Simmons attended BCB interview to be head coach of Bangladesh. But the BCB didn’t get from any of them what they are seeking for the team. Therefore, the board showed their interests to get some renowned coaches coupled with getting responses from some others coaches but they are yet to rope in anyone of them.
Along with it, the board also wants to newly appoint some other coaching staffs for the national team, HP and Under-19 which will be discussed coupled with the planning for the Tigers next back-to-back series, the new contract of the national players, players’ payment of the just concluded Dhaka Premier League (DPL), women’s team’s next away tours alongside other budgetary and regular issues in the meeting.
Akram Khan, one of the influential directors of the board, said that they are thinking to reduce the number of players’ contract from 18 to 15.
“We’re trying to decrease the number of the national contracted players. Let’s see what happens in Board meeting,” Akram Khan, who is also chairman of the BCB cricket operation committee, said.
“We’ve given a proposal earlier of the time. But due to various reasons, it has not been possible to implement. May be some more times are needed. It’s a matter of board meeting. But when it will be implemented, it’ll be counted since January,” he informed.
“We’ll decide the matter in our board meeting. It’ll not tell at this moment. We’ll take the decision after talking with all. But I think, it is better to keep the number within 15,” he added.
He told media that they all should avoid to make any comparison them with other teams and countries because the players’ salary for their domestic cricket is much more than others.
“I think, you all should keep in mind that our domestic players are getting more salary than others countries. I think, we’ve tried to increase and gave them hundred percent,” he said.
“We’ll gradually increase it. But it should not be right thing to go on comparison with the other teams and countries,” he said, adding that every year they’ll try to increase the salary in normal procedure.
