Autumn trimester begins at IUB
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised an orientation programme yesterday at its auditorium in Bashundhara, Dhaka for the newly admitted students of the Autumn 2015 Trimester, says press release.
Welcoming the new students Prof M Omar Rahman, Vice-chancellor of IUB depicted the distinctive nature of IUB education which places importance of professional education on the foundation of cross-disciplinary liberal arts curricula. Prof Milan Pagon, Pro-vice-chancellor (Designate), Prof Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, Dean, School of Business, Prof Shahriar Khan, on behalf of School of Engineering and Computer Science, Dr Md Abdul Khaleque, on behalf of School of Environmental Science and Management, Prof Zakir Hossain Raju, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and Dr Rita Yusuf, Dean, School of Life Sciences, also spoke to the newly admitted students on the occasion. The programme was conducted by Ms Priyanka Dey, Assistant Director, Undergraduate Admissions of IUB.
Later the newly admitted students visited different schools, departments, library, cafeteria etc. Apart from the students, their parents, guardians, members of the faculty and management of IUB were present on the occasion.

Golam Rahman joins as BSS  chairman
Pro-Vice-chancellor of Daffodil International University (DIU) Md Golam Rahman has joined as chairman of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) yesterday, says a press release.
Prominent communication expert Dr Golam Rahman and professor of journalism, was made the BSS chairman for a three- year term as the government reconstructed its board of directors recently.    Dr. Rahman was the Chairman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka during 1990-93 and 2004-05. He was a Professor and Head of the Department of Language and Communication Studies at The Papua New Guinea University of Technology,  Papua New Guinea during 2008- 2011.

Seminar held at East West University

East West University arranged a seminar titled “Child Marriage in Bangladesh: Current Situation and Potential Remedies” on Thursday on the campus, Aftabnagarin the capital, says press release.
The keynote presenters of the seminar were Dr Niaz Asadullah, Professor, University of Malaya, Malaysia and Dr Zaki Wahhaj, Associate Professor University of Kent, UK.
Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, chairperson, Board of Trustees, East West University and former governor, Bangladesh Bank chaired the seminar while Asaduzzaman Noor MP, Minister of Cultural Affairs was the chief guest and Mahbub Ara Begum Gini MP, member of the parliamentary standing committee on Women and children affairs was the special guest.   Professor M Sekander Hayat Khan, Vice-chancellor (acting) of East West University delivered the welcome address at the seminar.

SUST holds seminar
A seminar on ‘The nature and extent of Voluntary Disclosure in Corporate Annual reports: Evidence from Listed Banks of Bangladesh’ was held yesterday at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology(SUST).
The seminar was arranged by department of Business Administration (BBA) at Academic Building ‘E’. The seminar was started at 01:30pm and continued till 3pm.
The Masters of Philosophy(M. pill) fellow students of the department presented the key notes paper at the seminar.
Head of  BBA Department  and also dean of school of Management and Business Administration Professor Dr Nazrul Islam presided over the programme, where Dr Sultan Ahmed, professor of Chittagong University and Dr Mohammad Main Uddin, Professor of  Rajshahi University were present as guests. Among others,assistant professor of the department Dr Mazharul Hasan Mazumder, Mohammad Mizenur Rahman, Mohammad Shahidul Hoque, Ashraful Ferdous Chowdhury were present at the seminar.
