Abahani Limited got off to a flying start in the Khaza Rahmat Ullah Club Cup Hockey tournament with drubbing Bangladesh Police by 7-1 yesterday at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium.
The Club Cup hockey, which is the warm up tournament of the season before starting the league, this time is being organsied after the name of late Khaza Rahmat Ullah, former general secretary of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF).
Meanwhile, out of 12 teams of the Premier League, six teams are participating in the tournament when one of the title contenders Mohammedan Sporting Club along with Usha Krira Chakra are not taking part in the tournament.
However, Mohammed Mohsin opened the scoring in the very second minute to lead Abahani but had to wait for the second goal for 23 minutes when Rumman Sarkar made the tally 2-0 on 24th minute and Taher Ali increased the lead on 27th minute (3-0).
After taking 3-0 lead before the break the reigning champions of the tournament did not look back as they scored four more goals in the rest of 33 minutes of 60 minutes game.
Mohammed Mohsin came to action again when he scored his second and the third for the team on 42nd minute and two minutes later Krishna Kumar made the tally 5-0 and another four minutes interval Ashraful Islam hit the board to make the margin 6-0 and Taher Ali closed the sheet on right 60th after joining in the celebration (7-1).
Mahbubur Rahman of Polic SC could reduce one goal scoring on 55th minute.
Nadira Rahamt Ullah, wife of late Rahmat Ullah opened the tournament as the chief guest.
