2 held with 1,000 yaba tablets
Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested two suspected drug peddlers along with 1000 pieces of contraband yaba tablets from the capital's Chawlkbazar area on Friday. DB men arrested two persons, Zulhas Hawlader and Mosharraf Hossain, and seized 1000 pieces of yaba tablets from their possession from Chawlkbazar area, an official release said. During primary interrogation, they confessed their link to yaba trading saying that they have involved in the trading last three years, the release said, adding that efforts are on to capture the remaining three persons of the gang.

5 medicine shops fined in Ctg
A mobile court in separate drives in Chittagong city on Thursday fined the owners of five medicine shops Tk 55, 000 for selling date-expired medicine and not taking drug licenses. Executive magistrate of district administration Ruhul Amin while conducting series of drives, in cooperation with Drug Administration Directorate and Chittagong Metropolitan Police, fined the owners of five medicine shops Tk 55,00 and sealed off another medicine shop at city’s Bakalia and Kotwali areas for selling expired medicine and not taking drug license.

New office bearers
Senior journalists Nurul Huda and Aminul Haque were elected president and secretary respectively of the Dhaka Sangbadik Griho Sangsthan Samabay Samity (DSGSSL) for the next three years. The election was held at the Samity office at Mirpur Journalists Housing in the city on Friday.
Nurul Huda-Aminul Haque panel swept the election by beating Ruhul Amin Gazi-Afzal Hossain Palash panel. Other office bearers of the 12 member committee elected are: Vice-president Rafiqul Islam, Joint Secretary Mobarak Hossain and Treasurer Amzad Hossain. Members elected are: Qayum Khan Milon, Shahadat Hossain, Abdul Majid, Enayet Hossain Khan, Abul Hossain, Ziaul Huq and Sajjad Hossain Khan.

Food Safety confce begins today
The International conference on “Development of Guidance Materials on Evidence-Informed Food Safety Policies and Decision-Making Considering Multiple Criteria” will be held today at 3pm at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium of Dhaka University (DU), reports BSS. Institute of Nutrition and Food Science of DU and FAO will jointly organise the conference. DU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique will preside over the function while Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal will attend it as the chief guest.
