A mobile court of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport sentenced the owner of a cleaning and billboard company to one month’s jail for unauthorised entry into the airport’s customs hall, reports UNB. The convict, idendified as the owner of cleaning and billboard company ‘Nahar Trader’ Nurul Islam, was also fined Tk 5,000, and, in default, one month’s jail more. Earlier on Friday night, Nurul Islam was held by customs intelligence officials from near the arrival immigration counter for his suspicion movement there at around 11:00 pm on Friday night when 12 gold bars weighing 12 kilograms and some gold chains weighing four kgs were recovered from the a toilet near the immigration counter in an abandoned condition.
Though, after interrogation, the officials did not find his involvement in the gold recovery incident, but it was detected that Nurul Islam entered the customs hall without valid security pass as well as used duty pass without permission from the concerned authorities. The customs intelligence officials produced him before a mobile court of the airport on Saturday and after scrutinizing the information, the magistrate sentenced him to one month’s simple jail and fined him for his illegal entry in the restricted territory. “This is for the first time that a person has been jailed for such unauthorized entry in airport customs hall,” said director general of Customs Inteligence and Investigation Directorate Moinul Khan.
