Gazette on quota in due time

The government is yet to issue any notification over scrapping the quota system in government jobs, following the announcement by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Parliament on Wednesday, as the authorities concerned, especially the Public Administration ministry, await instructions from the high ups.

Talking to reporters at the secretariat, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Mozammel Haque Khan yesterday said they are waiting for further directives on the quota system from the top level. When asked if the ministry will issue the notification over scraping the quota system soon, Dr. Khan said that the gazette notification in this regard will be published in due time. “There is nothing to hurry. No recruitment process will begin immediately,” the senior secretary told reporters.

Asked whether the existing quota system in all kinds of government jobs will be abolished or not, the senior secretary said, “Everything will be specified in the proposed gazette notification.”

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced that all quota in government jobs will be scrapped, so that no dispute over the issue remains in future, following countrywide mass-agitation by students and job seekers demanding reform to the existing quota system in the government jobs.
