Digital Security Act ’18 bill placed in JS

The Digital Security Act, 2018 bill was placed yesterday in the Jatiya Sangsad with a view to check the cyber crime and to ensure the digital security for the state as well as the nation, reports BSS. Post Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Mostafa Jabbar placed the bill in the house with Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair. Placing the bill, the Information Technology minister said the maximum and safe utilization of the Information and technology is necessary for building ‘vision 2021: digital Bangladesh’ announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

 

The intensity of the cyber crime has been increased significantly with its ample scope of utilization, he said, adding that at the same time the abuse of the technology has also been increased.

So, the enactment of a law to ensure the national digital security as well as to protect, prevent, investigation, detection and jurisdiction of the crime is necessary, the minister added. Under the proposed bill, the government will form a digital security agency and also a 11-memeber national digital security council.

A chairman will lead the council. Other members of the council are : concerned ICT minister or state minister, Prime minister’s principal secretary, governor of Bangladesh Bank, ICT secretary, public security division secretary, foreign secretary, IGP of Police, BTRC chairman, DGFI chief. National digital security council’s DG will be the member secretary of the panel.

The enactment of the ‘digital security act-2018’ would play a pivotal role for building the vision 2021 : digital Bangladesh, said Mostafa Jabbar.

The post and Telecommunication minister proposed the House to send the bill to the parliamentary standing committee on the post telecommunication and information technology ministry for providing report after further scrutinization of the bill in 28days.
